I Know This Much is True by Wally Lamb

I used to be an avid reader, and could often be found with my nose wedged between the binding of a book. As I got a little older, however, and began to become busier and busier with school and work during breaks, I stopped reading as much. During this past year, however, I have come to start reading much more avidly again. So, as part of this blog, I would like to include the books that I delve into. So the first book I shall talk about is (as the title says) I Know This Much is True by Wally Lamb.

I am a few pages into this book, as I have just started it recently, and I am already in love with it. Lamb's method of storytelling is incredible. The book is fiction, yet it is written in the style of a memoir. Each of Lamb's character's is brought to life with his incredible use of language and imagery.

To provide you with a synopsis, I will borrow from Harper Collins site about Lamb.  "...I Know This Much Is True, a heartbreaking and poignant multigenerational saga of the reproductive bonds of destruction and the powerful force of forgiveness. A masterpiece that breathtakingly tells a story of alienation and connection, power and abuse, devastation and renewal--this novel is a contemporary retelling of an ancient Hindu myth. A proud king must confront his demons to achieve salvation. Change yourself, the myth instructs, and you will inhabit a renovated world.

When you're the same brother of a schizophrenic identical twin, the tricky thing about saving yourself is the blood it leaves on your bands--the little inconvenience of the look-alike corpse at your feet. And if you're into both survival of the fittest and being your brother's keeper--if you've promised your dying mother--then say so long to sleep and hello to the middle of the night. Grab a book or a beer. Get used to Letterman's gap-toothed smile of the absurd, or the view of the bedroom ceiling, or the influence of random selection. Take it from a godless insomniac. Take it from the uncrazy twin--the guy who beat the biochemical rap."
I am still only a few pages in, and for that reason I cannot give my entire opinion yet, but once I finish the book, I will return to this post with either a comment or a follow up post. In the meantime, if anyone has read I Know This Much Is True feel free to leave your thoughts in a comment on this post!

The First One!

Hi! My name is Aaron, and it seems that you have stumbled upon my blog. To give you a little background on what you are reading, I am starting this blog in order begin experiencing life a little more fully. I have a million and one interests, but I'm never able to find time to explore these interests. I figure that, if I begin a blog about my life, I'll want to do more things that I enjoy in order to fill the many pages of this website! You are going to run into things about cooking, photography, different projects that I undertake such as remodeling things in my dorm room, etc. So with that, let's take a look at my life!

Enjoy!
